Steady Leadership. Local Roots. A Vision for Montana’s Future.
I’m Sam Kulla, a lifelong Western Montanan who was born, raised, and educated here. I’m running as a Montana Democrat for an open seat in a contested primary for the State Legislature in House District 93. Here are my answers to some common questions:
Why are you running?
To address affordability, protect the land, and ensure the delivery of basic services from the perspective of a hard working person raising a family. I want to make our government serve the Montana Values of people who live here.
I plan to represent working families, students, seniors, Montana businesses, and anybody else who wants the affordability crisis addressed, public land protected, and civil liberties defended.
Why are you the best person to represent the district?
I understand the pressures we are under first-hand, am closely impacted by the issues on a personal level, have broad work experience, and plan to focus on practical policy aimed at benefiting anybody currently struggling to get by and live their best lives in Montana.
I currently serve on three strategic and advisory boards, with a unifying goal of making life better for Montanans:
The Montana Democratic Party Executive Board
The Missoula County Democrats Central Committee Executive Board
The Missoula Board of County Commissioners Impact Fee Advisory Committee
Where is HD 93? Can I vote for you?
Montana Legislative House District 93 includes parts of Southeast Missoula, Pattee Canyon, Clinton, Turah, and Carlton.

MY STORY
I was born in rural Mineral County, moved to Missoula when I was in grade school, and paid my way through college working in the service industry.
My path hasn’t been a straight line, but I’ve learned a lot about the world through employment in diverse fields:
Leading industrial maintenance and repair teams on renewable energy wind turbines nationwide and managing oilfield mapping to protect sensitive resources
Crewing on oceanographic research missions as a Licensed Merchant Mariner in the US Research Fleet
Commercial outfitting on Wild and Scenic Rivers in Wilderness Areas across the West
Instructing emergency medical and rescue skills to outdoor and government groups nationwide
Teaching accredited courses and coordinating travel programs for global high-school and university groups
Selling and supporting software, and installing hardware for Montana companies
Organizing in local, statewide and national Democratic campaigns across Montana
I am a Fellow of the Explorers Club, and have a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Montana.
A vote for me on the June 2nd Democratic Primary Ballot is a vote for representation based on practical experience, which I plan to leverage to make our Montana government work for us.
